Alcohol Compliance Check Grant

SUMMARY

2006-2007 Alcohol Compliance Checks

The Substance Abuse Division contracted with the Wyoming Association of Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police to conduct alcohol compliance checks and conduct training with alcohol retailers throughout the state.  We had 100% participation by the departments that serve 9,000 or more people.  We were asked to conduct at least 2 and not more than 4 checks during the fiscal year.  During the 1041checks, nearly one in five failed their check in that they sold to a minor, for a State failure rate of 18.9%.  This rate is lower than last years rate of 20.41% and down from the previous year of 25%.

We have continued our partnership with the Department of Revenue Liquor Division as they provide the report form and establishment labels by community to attach to the form to insure the proper license name and type was captured on the compliance check form.  This will aid the Liquor Division in a review of our data.  For example this will allow a comparison of compliance rates between communities that have had TIPS training and those that have not.

WASCOP distributed the new thirty minute training tape for new employees that work in a liquor establishment that was developed last year. This tape covers Wyoming liquor statues as well as best practices in liquor sales.  We distributed this tape along with new “GET ID” packets this year.  As we conducted our education visits with liquor establishments part of our message was to cover the State’s compliance rate and our goal of a significantly lower rate
