Tobacco Compliance Check Grant |
|
SUMMARY 2007 Tobacco Compliance Report The Substance Abuse Division contracted with the Wyoming Association of Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police to conduct tobacco compliance checks and conduct training with tobacco retailers throughout the state. We had 100% participation by the departments that serve 4,000 or more people. The “Get ID” packets that were distributed last year by the Sheriff or the Chief to more than 1000 establishments proved to be an effective educational tool. The feedback this year during 774 compliance checks of establishments was generally very positive with many establishments asking for more or updated information. We will be distributing new material prior to our next round of compliance checks. During the 774 checks, the failure rate for the State was13%. This is up from last year’s rate of 11%. Last year we noted that the State had discontinued the practice of having community groups also distribute material to establishments as a way of insuring that proper educational materials are available to businesses as high turnover in clerks necessitates continuous training. A review of the SYNAR rate and this rate may show whether more needs to be done to provide material to establishments. |
